Empowering Today's  Leaders for a Sustainable World

At the London Business School Alumni Sustainability Club, our vision is to become a global leader in sustainable business practices, integrating environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity into every facet of our operations, education, and outreach.

Sustainability at London Business School

Scope 1 and 2

LBS has successfully reduced scope 1 and 2 emissions by 49.2% on 2005 levels, all while expanding the campus.

This reduction was achieved through various energy saving initiatives and campus enhancements, such as installing motion and daylight sensors to optimise lighting, increasing LED usage, and installing voltage optimisation units. LBS also introduced automatic tracking systems to identify further energy-saving opportunities. In 2017, the school transitioned from diesel to electric vehicles. Further information on our Scope 1 and 2 emissions is available in the Carbon Management Plan.

Scope 3

The school is committed to working closely with stakeholders to strike a balance between the global nature of the institution and the commitment to sustainability.

Addressing Scope 3 emissions presents unique challenges for a global institution like London Business School. These emissions, which occur in the value chain, encompass a wide range of activities, including international travel, procurement of goods and services, and employee commuting. LBS is taking a methodical approach to tackle these complex emissions.

Learn more about sustainability at London Business School

  • Until recently, we tended to think that it was the job of governments to tackle social problems and that the social responsibility of business was to generate profits

  • The decline of trust in governments and their power to effect change means this view has been greatly undermined

  • This means there is a much bigger role for business to play in tackling the greatest issues facing society

  • The corporate sector can provide some of the solutions but, unlike governments, businesses ultimately have to make budgets work, so the public sector still has a critical role to play
